Journey to the Heart of India offers a fascinating voyage into one of mankind’s most ancient and prolific spiritual cultures. Through this Vedic cultural exhibition, we wish to share the universal values that have shaped India’s artistic expressions and spiritual heritage. As a land of great diversity in its geography and social customs, India expresses its cultural heritage through its deep spirituality, joyful celebrations, exotic food and clothing, and its prolific arts. As an in-depth introduction to India’s ancient Vedic culture, Journey to the Heart of India features exhibitions on Yoga, Ayurveda, Literature, Arts, as well as live performances of Indian dance and music. The many booths will display exciting works of art, clothing, and jewellery, along with abundant photo exhibits, film excerpts and soundtracks depicting major Vedic traditions. Among these will be featured an exotic array of vibrantly-colored Indian clothing (saris, shawls, kurtas, and gopi dresses) from India’s world-renowned variety of textiles. Also on display will be a captivating beautifully-ornated giant Chariot, traditionally used in ancient times by kings or gods.
This showcasing of the ancient Vedic culture also coincides with the commemoration of 50 years of ISKCON worldwide. The illustrious modern Saint A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the worldwide ambassador of the Vedic culture and foremost Teacher of the great Bhakti tradition, was the first to bring such a deep authentic tradition to the West in 1965. A year later, he founded the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) in New York City under very humble circumstances. Today, fifty years later, from all over the world members of the ISKCON society Srila Prabhupada founded have begun a year-long celebration honoring this rare Spiritual Teacher and his unique achievements. Presented on Friday Sept-02 to Sept-03 at the complexe Desjardins, Journey to the Heart of India is produced by Festival of India & ISKCON Montreal.
