In 1965, the prominent
emissary of India's
spiritual teachings,
His Divine Grace A.C.
Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila
Prabhupada (1896-1977)
brought to the West the
chanting of Hare Krishna as
propounded by Lord Sri
Chaitanya Mahaprabhu,
the golden incarnation of
Godhead in the present
age of quarrel.
A year later, he founded
the International Society
for Krishna Consciousness
(ISKCON) in New York City
under very humble
circumstances.
On the left, in New York,
at Tompkins Square, Swami Prabhupada
started single-handedly
the Hare Krishna movement.
